Relationship over religion. Try to start and end your day with God however best works for you. Maybe with music or an audio Bible, daily devotional, or even some good charitable service.
Trying to get yourself right before coming to God is putting too much weight on yourself. Allow Him to come in and do what you never could do on your own. (Confess, repent, believe & be baptized) Realize that you may mess up again, but don’t worry- He's working.
ROMANS 10

with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart
that God raised him from the dead,
you will be saved.
For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the
mouth one confesses and
is saved..
MATTHEW 6
Pray like this:
Our Father in heaven,
may your name be kept holy. May your Kingdom come soon. May your will be done on earth, as it is in heaven. Give us today the food we need,and forgive us our sins, as we have forgiven those who sin against us. And don’t let us yield to temptation,but rescue us from the evil one.
